Private Bernard Maguire

 

The family background of this man is not known at present, although based on the information given on his enlistment, the Irish Census suggests three possibilities, all the sons of farmers from County Cavan.

Bernard Maguire enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Belfast on 30 July 1918 (Corps of Hussars No.72125). He was described as being 5' 6ΒΌ" tall, with a dark complexion, black hair and grey eyes. He stated that he was 23 years old, was born in County Cavan, and worked as a general labourer.

Maguire was reported to have deserted from the regiment's reserve base at Antrim on 28 September 1918. It is not known if he was subsequentially apprehended.
